Will This Be The First Influencer Election?

In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, influencers are playing a major role, formally involved in both party conventions. The Harris campaign is heavily relying on influencers to engage younger voters, especially on platforms like TikTok, where viral content is shaping political messaging. Republicans have been using influencers since 2016, with figures like Charlie Kirk and Ben Shapiro becoming dominant.

Despite some tension with traditional media, influencers are seen as crucial for reaching niche audiences with authentic, trusted messaging. The trend reflects the growing importance of influencers in political campaigns, where both parties are using them to drive voter engagement in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

Influencer marketing has tripled in size since the last election, and campaigns are now using influencers to target disengaged voters. A six-second video from Harris’s campaign garnered over 7 million views, showcasing the power of influencers in driving voter engagement.

I feel like we have been on this road for a while now. Trump could of basically been considered the first influencer president. His Twitter alone shifted narratives and news cycles. Now, we just see more polished and platform specific influencers doing the same thing.
