TommyInnit shares his thoughts on the state of YouTube [video]

In this video, TommyInnit reflects on his journey as a YouTuber and his changing relationship with the platform. After taking a step back from social media, he shares how this break allowed him to rethink what it means to be a creator today. Inspired by conversations with fellow YouTubers, including a significant chat with MatPat at a YouTube Summit, Tommy discusses the pressures that come with YouTube's focus on metrics, like view counts and the “Out of 10” ranking system.

He critiques how YouTube’s analytics dashboard can negatively impact creators’ mental health by emphasizing popularity over creativity. Despite these frustrations, Tommy acknowledges the platform's power to give ordinary people a voice. He highlights that his most fulfilling experiences weren’t tied to subscriber milestones but were more spontaneous, creative moments. Tommy encourages aspiring creators to pursue their paths, focusing on authenticity rather than algorithm-chasing, and reminds them to reconnect with the passion that got them started.

So many creators burn out because of the constant pressure to perform, and YTs analytics dashboard doesnt help at all, it probably just makes people more obsessive and critical of themselves

truee. I mean, the "out of 10" ranking is brutal.

Imagine working hard on a video and then getting it thrown in your face that its only 7th best out of your last 10 uploads. yikes.
