TikTokker slaps rival content creator with lawsuit that could ‘change the influencer game’ as we know it

A legal battle between two social media influencers, Sydney Nicole Gifford and Alyssa Sheil, could have significant implications for the influencer industry. Gifford, who has over 500,000 followers, filed a lawsuit accusing Sheil of copying her TikTok, Instagram, and Amazon Storefront posts, including aesthetics, product promotions, and text. The conflict began after a joint photoshoot in January 2023, after which Sheil allegedly blocked Gifford and started replicating her content. Despite cease and desist letters and successful removal of some posts, Sheil continued her actions, leading Gifford to sue in April. Legal experts suggest this case could set a precedent, making it harder for influencers to create content without facing similar lawsuits. Sheil denies all allegations, arguing that promoting similar products does not constitute infringement.

How annoying! Content theft has been left unchecked for awhile and tbh I think we are all tired of it. It hurts authentic creators, who need all the help they can get.
