This can go either way.
It seems Hollywood has gotten a hold of video game IP, and understand that this is a way to milk existing audiences.
Personally I think the overhead of running a studio (at that magnitude) forces you to alleviate risk by going after existing audiences that you think are sure to do well.
I imagine we will see much more of this in traditional media.

I can’t help but think about Five nights at Freddy, a game that has a vibrant community behind it, generate so much buzz as a movie, it’s no wonder they would tackle even bigger IP such as Zelda. Nintendo already did Mario with meaningful success. I imagine this will do the same.
