From first-hand experience, memorization alone is really hard especially if it's meaningless. It becomes far easier when you connect it to emotions, like the article suggests.

Imagine trying to remember the digits of PI, those numbers are seemingly meaningless to you, however, im sure you could have an easier time remembering a monologue because those words are backed by feelings.
