French mobile apps and games publisher Voodoo has acquired BeReal for €500 million. BeReal's co-founder and CEO Alexis Barreyat will depart after a transition period, with Aymeric Roffé, CEO of Voodoo’s Wizz app, taking over. BeReal, which has over 40 million users, gained popularity during the pandemic but struggled to grow its user base recently. Voodoo plans to leverage its expertise to help BeReal expand and add new features, maintaining its mission of fostering authentic, unfiltered social connections.

Does anyone actually use BeReal? I remember it blowing up during the pandemic, but I haven’t heard much about it since. I wonder if they can bring it back to life.
I think Voodoo is definitely eyeing the data BeReal has on its users. With 40 million active users, that’s a lot of valuable info on social behaviors and trends.
