The Senate passed two major online safety bills, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and the Children and Teens' Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA 2.0), with a 91-3 vote. KOSA mandates social media companies to disable algorithmic feeds and addictive features for children under 16, provide parental supervision tools, and prevent harmful content. It also imposes a "duty of care" on platforms to mitigate harmful effects. COPPA 2.0 updates the 1998 law to prohibit targeted ads to children and require consent for collecting teens' data. The bills will now proceed to the House.

Not sure how social media will deal with the generic “don’t let kids do anything that’s addictive” sentiment here. At this point they may just say you need to be of a certain age to use the platforms.
