Apple has launched a new "Podcasts on the web" feature, accessible via Safari, Chrome, Edge, and Firefox on various devices, including Macs and PCs. This feature allows users to search, browse, and listen to podcasts directly on the web, with access to their Up Next queue and library when signed in with an Apple Account.
It functions similarly to the Apple Podcasts app, enabling users to subscribe to and receive updates for their favorite shows. While Apple previously allowed podcasts to be listened to on the web through embedded links, this is the first time there's a dedicated website for devices without the Podcasts app. If the Podcasts app is installed on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, the website will automatically open the app instead of the web version. This launch follows Apple's recent introduction of Apple Maps on the web, offering an alternative to Google Maps.

Interesting that this comes right after Apple Maps got a web version. I’m sensing a pattern here..Apple trying to break away from its app first approach? Maybe they’re finally realizing that not everyone is locked into their walled garden. Next up: iMessage on the web? 👀
This is a welcome change! I have been using embedded links for years and it always felt like a workaround. Having a dedicated site feels like Apple is finally taking podcasting seriously as a platform.
