Instagram is removing aggregators

Instagram is implementing changes to give smaller creators more exposure and to reward original content. These changes include adjusting ranking algorithms to promote original content, replacing reposted content with the original, adding labels to reposted content linking to the original creator, and removing content aggregators from recommendations. The platform aims to create a more level playing field for all creators and maintain high standards for recommended content by enforcing guidelines related to sensitive topics, low-quality content, political content, and false or misleading information.

This is great news. Aggregator accounts are honestly some the worst parts of social media, especially since they try to race to distribute good content to their list faster than the original creator, making it so that they can prey on creators with good content but small followings.

See ya “fuck you jerry”, and good riddance.

For those curious an aggregator is

accounts that repeatedly (10 or more times in the last 30 days) post content from other Instagram users that they didn’t create or enhance in a material way will not be shown in surfaces where we recommend content.

Holy moly, big news. Let's see if this is actually going to make a difference though, here's hoping it does. Shout outs to the small creators.
