Got tired of working endlessly in a career I hated. It seemed like such a waste of time despite the money being decent. I picked up content creation first for fun, but then saw that it's actually a great way to become comfortable in my own skin.
Same story here!
Well said! I discovered that too, getting out of my comfort zone and then finding my confidence, and that alone really makes it worth it!
I was inspired at a young age by people like Jenna Marbels (we miss you Jenna!). At first I was extremely self-conscious, but I persevered because I looked up to so many online creators and as I would watch them do everyday things (such as day in the life or just normal vlogs) I realized they were just normal people like me.
I too get so much inspiration from watching these creators not only live their normal lives but also travel for promotion or doing those bigger things!
Jim Rohn said we're the average of the five people we spend the most time with, and I've found that also works from a distance! Consuming a lot of positive videos from content creators ends up inspiring us to join them and find our own groove.
I'm inspired by your comment too!
I started writing about ten-ish years ago (i forget when honestly, it's been a while). At first, I just really enjoyed writing whatever I was thinking and feeling. I especially liked describing things and using new words I learned over time.
Then, I got into making narration videos and posting online which showed me what people thought of my work. I liked that. The whole aspect of creating and sharing is cool to me!
What about you?
Once upon a time in a land far, far away, I wanted to be a singer/songwriter. That dream was slayed by all the mundane things in life as well as myasthenia gravis which did a number on my vocal cords. So eventually I settled on being an author, and I do have a self-published poetry collection out there, but that took a backseat to everything else too.
At some point while working as a captioner, I discovered vloggers LaToya Forever and Brooklyn and Bailey on YouTube, neither of which I thought I would enjoy, but I kept grabbing their files and I got absolutely hooked. I've never missed a vlog from either account in all these years, and it ignited that itch to be a vlogger myself.
I'm just beginning to experiment with vlogging. I've filmed quite a bit and I'm busy editing but haven't posted anything yet. But I think it will be the perfect way to express my creativity in all the ways that were stifled since giving up my original dream.
Awesome origin story, I hope to see your vlog one day soon. Best of luck. 😊
Always had an overactive imagination, so figured that id direct it into creating something I enjoy
I got with @eloitschris and realized we had a bunch of fun joking back and forth. Turned out we really liked making skits. Now it would seem weird to not make content.
Honestly wish we did it sooner. Not sure when it was, but it was definitely like an "ah-ha" moment for it. Plus we were both getting tired of our jobs, and we thoroughly enjoy making content.
It all started out with making little code scripts and hacks for friends, and later when people started asking me how I did it, I ended up making tutorials and giving it to them.
When I started learning 3D graphics, I used to give myself 'challenges' with each 3D model. They were pretty impossible challenges (for instance, making a realistic tree without textures and only 100 polygons) but they made designing stuff fun and helped me find creative ways to design things quickly and efficiently.
Also got inspired by other artists online and a few art challenges here and there.
I always knew my job would be something creative, just naturally, and now being independent is such a real option it's too tempting. I'm just starting the journey but it seems a lot more attractive than working in a company forever, I don't feel it suits my temperament.
Wanted to get more out of what I love to do alongside with going beyond my comfort zone. I was also inspired with multiple creators that I see on my social media feeds where they share their processes and experiences as a creator and an artist.
